SU Carbs - Connection, HIF type

Although there are a number of different versions of the HIF type carb, they all essentially share the same type of connection layout.

The diagram below depicts the most common type - the connections can be on either the right hand side (as illustrated below) or the left hand side. Some have the connections shared on either side. Whichever, the port functions are the same. It isn't essential the crankcase breather pipe be connected - you really don't want that choking crap from the crankcase spoiling your nice, fresh, fuel-rich incoming mixture - but it's obviously essential to block the port off if you don't. A blob of RTV Silicone is sufficient in most cases. To adjuster mixture - screw the adjuster in to richen, out to weaken. There may be a 'anti-tampering' cap in there on some carbs - just hook it out.

C-AJJ4022 4 POT ALLOY CALIPERS FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

These calipers are intended for use on 12” wheels with 8.4”diameter solid discs.

When fitting vented discs, spacers are required to fit between the two halves (Spacer kit C-AJJ4021) If using vented discs the drive flange must also be changed to the relevant type NAM6450F. When fitting the calipers ensure the wheel studs are sitting flush in the flange or disc as they should be in standard form and not fouling in any way.

C-AJJ4029 Vented disc/Caliper conversion kit

For use when converting cars which already have hubs fitted that hold calipers except 997/998 Cooper which will also require larger Constant velocity joints and Timken bearings, If you have brake shoe front drum brakes a kit C-AJJ4029A is available which contains all parts required..

Historical Article - Nov 1991 - A SERIES EVO L.S.D. Part 2

The cases are machined from steel billets, and all components manufactured to exacting specifications from high grade materials. On the road tests have proven that the bevel gear and plate pack are capable of absorbing 230lh ft of torque in front wheel drive applications. The cross pins are much more substantial than other types.

Historical Article - March 1992 - Evolution Alloy Calipers

Following the great furore experienced by the first generation of four pot alloy calipers, we have not been idle. To meet the demand, greater manufacturing control was needed, necessitating in the production of new moulds. This gave us a chance to further improve the design, and widen the range of fitments to include the 12” and 13” wheeled cars, using the full 8.4” diameter discs for both solid (latest Mini) and vented discs. This means that the Mini Spares caliper will fit:- 10” wheels with the 7½” S disc, machined down 8.4” solid disc, even if a vented disc is the owners choice.

A broad variety of options that minimise outlay to install are possible, as the alloy calipers can be supplied to bolt directly to the swivel hub to cover all these set-ups. There is a direct replacement for the original S/1275GT set up which can also be used on the later disc and the drive flange assembly with only the disc diameter to be reduced.

Mini Spares Project Min

Mini Spares decided to produce an up market twin headlamp grille, because so many Cooper owners needed to renew their grille or replace the front valance mounted spotlamps. Their location means that they get damaged so easily on impact. whether it be by cars reversing into them when parking or from minor accidents.

To produce this grille with stainless steel slats meant that we had to use the back plate from the current cars. which goes back to the first MK2 in 1968. Using this back plate would obviously govern the size of the lamps we could use. Originally it was hoped that a 6" lamp could be used. but because a reinforcement ring was required only a 5.75" or 5.5" lamp could be used which was not what we re...

Historical Article-August 1994-Latest Innovations and Products

6 OF THE BEST We have now developed a 6-speed gearbox and sequential gearchange for the 5/6 speed gearbox. (Sequential is like a motor bike change, all in line and not "H" shape like the MinL) They will only be made in small batches when required as demand will be very slow. The original "A" plus design of gears were first drawn up in the 1940's and not put into production until 1980. Although quiet compared to the previous gears of the four synchro gearbox they are much weaker by virtue of the thinner gear pitch. On the Mini Spares project car we have the old type gears with'S' ratios converted into a 5-speed and it has proved indestructible by everybody who has thoroughly tested the car with its 8-port engine power. As the ratios were not very desirable for tuned motors, we are contemplating producing a whole new helical cut set of nearly indestructible gears which will be quiet for road use.

Historical Article-November 1995-Wheel of Fortune

Wheel of Fortune If there is one aesthetic accessory that commands more debate, confusion, and disappointment it has to be the wheel. Since the inception of the Mini, if any manufacturers have produced a vast array of different designs and' sizes of wheel rim. Many are now defunct, although some of the rims still surface through garage clearouts and the like .. Many of the rims specifically made for the Mini generally fit with no problems, others have been adapted from a rim made for another vehicle.
